UFC FIGHT NIGHT 150 POST-FIGHT PRESSER NEWS AND NOTES
UFC president Dana White spoke to reporters following UFC Fight Night 150 and answered their questions. Here Is What the boss guy had to say in reaction to the MMA media’s questions:
The incentive for”Battle of the Night” moved to Mike Perry vs. Alex Oliveira, while”Performance of the Night” bonuses went to veterans Glover Teixeira and Jim Miller. White admitted handing out FOTN was a difficult choice considering how great the primary event between Jack Hermansson and Ronaldo”Jacare” Souza was, but ultimately said he and the matchmakers reached a unanimous choice to provide the incentive to Perry and Oliveira.
White reported the UFC booked Hermansson against Souza because they believe he is gifted, and stated he had been impressed by the fact”The Joker” was prepared to visit the floor with Souza. He said he was impressed by the toughness in the matchup of Souza, but he didn’t get the win.
Hermansson’s win puts him in the name combination at 185lbs, but not before UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and interim UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya try to merge the belt later this year. It is reasonable to state that Hermansson will need at least one more big-name win before he fights for the middleweight belt.
White said he was not a fan of this occasion between Dmitry Smoliakov and Greg Hardy. He said the UFC does not do set-up fights, regardless of what fans and press were saying online about this fight, but said he was very disappointed in Smoliakov’s functionality. He did add that Hardy arrived in great shape for the struggle and did his job from getting the win, but White was quite critical of Smoliakov’s cushioned 9-2 record coming into the fight.
The timing of this NFL draft did not have anything to do with Hardy being on the crowed. It was since it was in Florida and Hardy trains in American Top Team, based on White.
The UFC was pleased with the presence and gate and plans on coming back to Florida at a certain stage.
White said the UFC is going to Mexico and Puerto Rico. The business is considering property and is laying out a business plan for both nations. The UFC is trying to”kickstart the market” by constructing a performance institute in Puerto Rico, to provide jobs to people impacted by the hurricanes.
White blamed American Top Team owner Dan Lambert for spending money to develop the Florida regional MMA scene.
White said he had been impressed by Perry’s performance, and commended how he remained composed against Oliveira even when he was hurt. The UFC is very high on Perry and this triumph over Oliveira will push him to the top-15.
The UFC was supposed to meet with Conor McGregor in Miami, but will instead meet with him in Los Angeles shortly.
Tony Ferguson has no return date set but White stated he wants to book as soon as he’s cleared to battle.
White said the UFC’s decision to visit either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale next time they head to Florida will depend on who fights on the card.
