Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl wary of Tottenham’s quality
Tottenham are”more dangerous” following a poor run of results that has made them like a wounded boxer, says Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Spurs have won each of their past 17 games – after losing on penalties against League Two Colchester United and on Tuesday night they crashed at the third round.
Hasenhuttl takes his Saints side to north London on Saturday -“it’s a big struggle, but we like these challenges” – and the Austrian is wary of confronting the wrath of a defeated Spurs team.
“As always, like a fighter, if he’s knocked a little bit he’s even more harmful, so listen” , said Hasenhuttl ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“We do not seem too much on these. I believe that it’s important for all of us to concentrate on our possessions. We know it is a significant challenge, but we enjoy these challenges.
“Our last away games were rather good – much better than our home games – therefore we are not frightened about this game, we like to go out there.
“It’s on us, and how we think in our possessions and the way we learn to compete against the big teams away from home. In away games it must be perfect, if we don’t do that it’s difficult.
“It is never an edge against a huge team if they are struggling since you must always be aware of the quality they’ve. We anticipate the hardest opponent we can envision.”
Spurs director Mauricio Pochettino attained good success in their own own spell in charge of Southampton, taking them to an eight-placed ending in the Premier League – the highest in the history of the club.
Hasenhuttl is a admirer of the predecessor Pochettino that he says shot Spurs”from an extremely struggling team to a Champions League finalist”.
“I think he did a great job in Tottenham. I believe it’s unbelievable that he does there,” additional Hasenhuttl.
Last year Hasenhuttl was successful at his first meeting from Pochettino – though the Argentine wasn’t present in the dugout owing to his rant at referee Mike Dean.
“Last yearhe was not allowed to take a seat on the bench, so maybe that is why we were able to take the 3 things,” he added.
“I really don’t know how we won that match because they should have been up in the first half. So it was a good second half. We had a few subs in the half-time and we all took risks in the second half.
“If you want to take points from such a team, you want a nearly ideal operation, and even then you are not sure.”
