Oleksandr Usyk will make his heavyweight debut against Tyrone Spong in Chicago on October 12
His debut that is heavyweight will be made by oleksandr Usyk against Tyrone Spong in the Wintrust Arena at Chicago on October 12, live on Sky Sports.
A division is being moved up by the cruiserweight champion after his knockout win over Tony Bellew at November and will face Spong, an unbeaten Florida-based contender.
Spong has 13 knockouts including last weekend’s stoppage win over Jeyson Minda, at 14 battle, and Usyk has voiced his respect for the 33-year-old.
“Spong is a speedy and strong heavyweight who has had much success at the ring,” explained Usyk. “I must come through this evaluation to challenge on the world heavyweight title. I look forward to seeing everyone there.”
An kick boxer, Spong now relishes the battle of facing one of the world’s elite fighters.
The Surinamese-Dutchman, who is ranked at No 4 by the WBO, said:”After achieving almost all of my goals as a kick boxer and becoming one of the most decorated winners at the history of the game, I wanted to test myself at the difficult and challenging game of boxing.
“I’ve worked tirelessly throughout the previous few years and now have the opportunity to show my value as a boxer against maybe the ideal pound-for-pound, and most technically sound boxer on the planet.
“Some may think the challenge might be too difficult, but I think in myselfand anticipate being successful on October 12.”
