Charles Leclerc given two time penalties in Japanese GP after Max Verstappen collision
Charles Leclerc has fallen somewhere to seventh at a revised Japanese GP outcome after being passed time penalties in the aftermath of his battle with Max Verstappen.
The Ferrari driver has been supplied a five-second sanction to the episode itself after stewards ruled Leclerc waspredominantly at fault for the crash, which forced the Red Bull off course and effectively ended Verstappens race.
However, Leclerc was handed a 10-second punishment that was more severe for continuing with a damaged front wing past the opening lap – and then after it had broken carrying on to get a lap and debris broken Lewis Hamiltons Mercedes wing mirror behind.
Ferrari were also fined 25,00 Euro as a Outcome
By not bringing car 16 to the pits at the end of a 1, immediately after the incident for a security inspection when there was damage obviously visible and then by telling the driver to remain outside for an extra lap after telling that the Race Director differently, the team made an unsafe condition on the circuit that just narrowly avoided being a major incident and also increased the likelihood of further incidents following the one noted, said the stewards.
Leclerc drops to place behind the Daniel Ricciardo of Renault.
