A welterweight bout between The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians welterweight winner Kamaru Usman and Emil Weber Meek was originally scheduled for UFC 219. However, because of an alleged visa issue for Meek which influenced his traveling program, the pairing was postponed and then rescheduled for this occasion. [5] However, it was shifted to UFC Fight Night: Stephens vs. Choi per day later, that took place six days prior to this event. [6]
A welterweight bout between Abdul Razak Alhassan and Sabah Homasi was originally scheduled for UFC 219, but later altered to this event. The pairing met at UFC 218, when Alhassan acquired via a contentious TKO. [7][8]
Charles Rosa was anticipated to confront newcomer Dan Ige in the event. But on December 22, Rosa pulled out injury. [9] Ige remained on the card and confronted fellow newcomer Julio Arce. [10]
Arnold Allen was expected to confront The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 lightweight winner Enrique Barzola in the event. But, Allen was pulled from the fight on January 11 due to alleged visa issues which restricted his ability to travel. [11] newcomer Matt Bessette that is promotional substituted him. [12]
Jamie Moyle was expected to face Maryna Moroz in the occasion. However, Moyle pulled out of the struggle during the week leading up to case citing an undisclosed injury. [13] In turn, advertising officials indicated that Moroz would be rescheduled for a future occasion.
